bio of artist Eyajo Joseph
š
Some artists maneuver within the coda, of a city slinging their wares, others are curators of the citadel museums, that house that particular art, but few are blessed a divine birth and the ability to transcend immortality through the realization of aquatic, swamp-laden and misshapen creatures. One such eccentric comes to mind, the dark guitarist/lyricist of deathrock legend, “Eyajo Joseph.” Renaissance man supreme, alchemist of wordplay, tamer of distorted freaks and bayou secrets, bequeathed by variable legacies. It's tasking to describe this maverick interloper. Part deathrock anomaly that helped define and refine post punk mannerism with the graven dark melodramatics of the “Astrovamps” and currently honing subversively unconventional guitar prowess with the avant-garde pariah's “The Black Heroin Gallery”, Eyajo Joseph is contradiction personified. Of course under the guise of an eerily moonlit starless night, mind you.
Forged by quill and brush, his style echoes the sentiments of the masters, yet never wavers into their territory. Instead, he opts for flights of fancy to self-dominated lands, not unlike a demented “Lewis Carroll” or “Salvador Dali” for the end times, or an arrogant aristocrat sheltered by his own lurid imagination. Investing his soul onto mad and frenzied flurries of canvas he explores phantasm realms with impunity bringing all manner of subterranean elves, fairies, slavish concubines, necrotic nuns and even the odd jester or head of steer to manifestation. Oftentimes he stitches them together in weirdly varied assortments, thus creating genetically improbable mutations, once again defying the very nature of what god intended.
Blasphemous by nature, these deviant meshes of crosshatch and stippling ink, are nightmarish visions meant to illicit instant response and anything short of pure, unbridled astonishment will not be permitted. But, a prevailing aura of discomfort, sexual titillation or spittle jaw-dropping awe, will also suffice. Sacred ground cannot be tampered, especially if the soil is sour and any visitation to his haunting world “Nocfayland” or the dreaded “Ireland Circus” will surely cause one to up the ante of their arsenal quota. Witchcraft also brings its dead and cursed to the artist’s banquet, hexing those whom would detest the very nature of the denizens of lost antiquity. For theirs, is a world not to be tampered with, or within and their savior king is not a sorcerer to cross or besmirch begrudgingly. Heed these words well mortal.... for you have been forewarned. Now you may walk through the valley of the dead and experience the dark fantasy art of Eyajo Joseph.
